Property BrothersCanada’s real estate market is booming. With more and more people buying new homes, the media attention on this industry is also at an all-time high.

Property Brothers, the popular reality show centered on home improvement and renovation approached Tango for collaboration. They wanted to know if the design studio would be interested in doing a couple of episodes with them. The show’s producers wanted help in modernizing the kitchens for couple of properties that they were going to renovate.

It seemed like a fun and exciting opportunity with a chance to showcase Tango’s expertise in the kitchen innovation business. The team joined the cast of the show, Jonathan and Drew, for couple of episodes which two of them aired at the start of October.

Season 6, EP 12- Stuck in a suburban starter

The first home was a bit of a challenge. It was a suburban property with a small space for the kitchen area and a limited budget. The Tango team was asked to renovate it to give the kitchen a modern look.

The first thing Tango experts looked to do was to create more room. The shelves and storage area was taking up too much space. The design team decided to flatten out the shelves and build a floor to ceiling pantry to maintain storage.

Making more space allowed the team to add a rectangular island in the middle of the kitchen which is trendy these days. The team also replaced the wash basin, moving it from the corner into the new center island. The first thing Tango experts looked to do was to create more room. Finally, the team added a small banquet area in the corner, to go along with the bar seating arrangement at the center island. Suburban homes have limited space and effective utilization of area is the key to designing a great kitchen.

The kitchen still had plenty of movement space between the shelves and the center island as can be seen in the picture.

It is amazing how you can add great utility to your kitchen with small changes.

Next job was for another small property in the city. Home to a single, working mom, this home was a challenge as the team had to consider safety measures as well as a convenience on a limited budget.

One positive thing about this project was that designers had enough room to work with compared to the first project and they decided to improve the decorative aspect.

The kitchen opened up to the living room and it was difficult to add a center but the Tango team made up for it by improving the quality of cabinets, counter-tops and a new color scheme.

The kitchen tiles were updated to match the new look. The team also brought in new quartz tops for the counters to give the kitchen a slick look. The cabinets were also replaced to match the improvements.

It was a brilliant job overall and the homeowners were very happy with the results.
